For monitoring and telecare centres, the challenge is no longer just receiving alerts. It is being able to receive them from any device, without multiplying proprietary integrations. The SCAIP protocol changes this logic. This European standard allows a monitoring system to receive alerts from multiple manufacturers, with no dedicated development work required.
It is against this backdrop that Azursoft announces the successful completion of validation tests between the Navigil watch and Horus, its monitoring and telecare solution. In the event of an alert, the watch now transmits the information to Horus via SCAIP, in real time.
Who is Navigil, a subsidiary of the Finnish Twig group?
Navigil is a Finnish company. It was acquired by the Twig group two years ago. Twig is a long-standing player in lone worker protection (LWP) devices: badges, watches, and alert equipment for employees who work alone and face occupational risk.
With the Navigil watch, the aim is in particular to reach telecare providers already in the market, offering them an additional device that is easy to add to their existing range.

The Navigil watch is available in two versions: a digital version and an analogue version with hands.
The analogue version addresses a well-known challenge for telecare providers: the rejection of devices perceived as stigmatising. A pendant or wristband with a red button immediately signals frailty. Many older adults refuse to wear one for this reason.
The analogue Navigil watch looks like an ordinary watch, complete with a mechanism and hands. Yet it includes the full range of telecare functions: calls, alerts, heart rate monitoring, step count, and sleep quality tracking. If a problem occurs, a voice channel can be opened with an operator.
The device runs on the 4G LTE-M network, designed for low-power connected objects. The watch does not need to be charged every day: two to three charges a week are enough. It operates autonomously, without depending on a paired smartphone.
What the SCAIP integration changes in practice
The Navigil platform can dispatch the watch’s alerts and events in several formats: SMS, email, voice message, or phone call, in a senior-and-family-carer model.
It can also transmit these alerts in SCAIP format, directly to an alarm receiving centre such as Horus. Tests carried out with Navigil confirm that these alerts are properly handled within Horus. Going live requires no additional setup on the client’s side.
Monitoring or telecare: who does this affect?
This compatibility is relevant to two audiences that increasingly overlap.
- On one side, telecare providers looking to expand their device offering without starting a specific integration from scratch.
- On the other, monitoring stations that also run a telecare activity. They can extend their range of compatible sensors, as part of remote monitoring provided 24/7.
- This compatibility also fits within lone worker protection, a use case where the Navigil watch, drawing on Twig’s expertise, naturally finds its place.

Monitoring and telecare: a shared interoperability challenge
Monitoring and telecare rely on the same technical building blocks: an event is detected, an alert is transmitted, an operator handles it.
A growing number of centres now run both activities in parallel. For them, the ability to quickly integrate a new device is becoming an important selection criterion. This is exactly what SCAIP enables, now the most widely used standard among monitoring operators in Europe.
SCAIP, short for Social Care Alarm Internet Protocol, originated in Sweden before becoming a European standard (CENELEC TS 50134-9). It allows communication between an alert device and a receiving centre, regardless of the manufacturer behind the connected device. It is one of the more than 270 protocols already integrated with Horus. Azursoft is already able to receive information from both the monitoring and telecare markets, which makes it easier to integrate new devices such as the Navigil watch.
